PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Our school produces original performances throughout the year. All current students are invited and encouraged to participate in these events. The performers in our productions are made up entirely by the students of our school as we believe that it is important for our dancers to play every role in every performance.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays is an original dance production that delights and captures the hearts of audiences of all ages. Set to your favorite holiday music and featuring classical ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance, Happy Holidays offers an age appropriate alternative to holiday entertainment.

Come and be a part of Angel’s earthly journey as she is sent to find the true meaning of the holiday. Travel with her through the Winter Wonderland, a sweet bakeshop, and the magical toyshop, as she discovers the gifts of hope, love, peace, faith, forgiveness and joy.

Share with your family and friends the gift of dance and rediscover the true meaning of the holidays at Happy Holidays.

Spring Dance Concert

Our dance year culminates with a beautiful Spring Concert near the end of May at Dana Auditorium on the Queens University Campus. For the timely convenience and comfort of everyone, especially our audience, we split our Concerts up into five performances. The Saturday shows are at 9:00  a.m. for preschool dancers; 12:00 noon for K-3rd grade dancers; 3:30 p.m. for 4th-6th grade dancers; and 7:00 p.m. for the teenagers.   On Friday night there is a "Company Showcase" for our Company dancers.  The Companies are groups of dedicated dancers who auditioned and participated in the JMSD Company classes throughout the dance year. Our Spring Dance Concert weekend is a very special time for everyone involved.  There is no admission charge to attend any of these performances.

A professional photographer is contracted to photograph all who desire to do so.  This service is conveniently located in the Dana Auditorium lobby during the dress rehearsals.

All of our performances are professionally videotaped with DVD reproductions available for purchase.

This year's Spring Concert will be held on Saturday, May 19th 2012.  Costumes will be ordered during our Winter Break, so please let us know before the break if you are not able to participate in the spring concert. (You can still attend classes and not participate in the performance.) The Spring Concert is not required, but highly recommended, as it is a wonderful experience for the children.

The cost to be in the performance is a costume (approximately $50-$100, which includes the tights and necessary accessories) and a recital fee of $45.00 per student. We will charge a non-refundable $50.00 costume deposit payable January 1st. (The deposit is non-refundable because we will have already ordered and paid for the costumes which cannot be returned to the costume companies.) The balance of the costume and recital fee will be due March 1st.

The Companies of JMSD

Every spring we hold open auditions for rising 6th-12th graders who wish to become a part of a dedicated group of dancers we call our Companies. It is the only well-rounded, pre-professional dance training in Charlotte that does not focus on competitions. Each Company has a set schedule and a certain requirement of classes to take in the summer and during the dance year. This program is for dancers who feel that dance will be a priority in their lives throughout their teen years and perhaps beyond. Our goal for these Company dancers is to be extremely versatile in all forms of dance when they graduate from JMSD. Many of our Company graduates go on to pursue dance in college and/or pursue professional careers in dance.

These dancers also represent JMSD in the community throughout the year with performances and community service. Company dancers in the past have performed at; Kids in Motion, Taste of Charlotte, Charlotte Ice Cream Festival, Carolinas Concert Association, many assisted living facilities and numerous other events. It is a valuable experience that teaches responsibility, commitment, and work ethic, all while having fun doing something they love to do.
