Contemporary/ModernContemporary is a genre of dance that blends multiple different dance styles, including jazz, modern, and ballet, to express natural movement through the body.
As a style, contemporary dance is surprisingly broad, with many different techniques, including Graham, Horton, Limon, and Cunningham techniques, to name a few. Our goal is to expose students to as many of these techniques as possible so they can discover as much of what contemporary dance has to offer. The option to take Contemporary/Modern begins in 4th grade. There are two levels of classes in each age group. To enroll in Contemporary/Modern Level 2, one must be placed in the class by a JMSD faculty member. |
